Roxi Dykstra

Roxi Dykstra (Prix de Master, Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, France; M.Mus., Université de Montréal; ARCT Piano) has worked as a professional musician since 2004, with a career encompassing chamber, orchestral, and solo performance across Europe and Canada. She has appeared with the Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, and Okanagan Symphony Orchestras, as well as with Vetta Music and the Turning Point Ensemble, and has performed extensively in France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Malta, Turkey, and Hungary.

Her European appointments include Assistant Principal Viola with the Orquestra do Norte in Portugal, a permanent full-time position with the National Portuguese Orchestra and National Opera at Lisbon’s historic Teatro São Carlos, baroque violist with Divino Sospiro, and research work with the Artistic Doctoral School at the University of Performing Arts in Graz, Austria.

Now based in Canada, Roxi performs regularly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and has recently been appointed to the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. Originally from Smithers, British Columbia, she is a passionate advocate for musical excellence in the North. She served as principal violist of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra for three years, has frequently appeared as concertmaster, and has also directed the orchestra, including a 2021 production of Peter and the Wolf. Roxi is the founder and co-director of the Orchestra North Summer Program and directs its Academy, has over 15 years’ experience as a Royal Conservatory of Music instructor, adjudicates for the BC Performing Arts Festival Association, directs the Prince George Youth Symphony Orchestra, and serves as Artistic Director of the Spirit of the North Classical Music Festival, which brings dozens of classical concerts each August to Smithers and the surrounding region. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the Kunstuniversität Graz.
